Welcome to our Trout Rearing Page. Below are some pictures of our Trout Rearing Project which has been undertaken by the Club for the past several years. Ralph Moyer has stepped up to manage the Trout program and with an "army" of Volunteers keep the project moving ahead each year. The long original raceway has been here since the early years of the Club with the new smaller raceway added a few years ago. Thousands of trout are obtained from the Pennsylvania Fish Commission to be raised by the Club and stocked in Penns Creek each year in addition to the trout purchased and stocked by the Club. The PFC provides the fingerlings and the Club provides the manpower, facilities and feed. Each spring after the spring stocking, the Club purchases full sized (and then some) trout and has a fishing derby for the kids. What doesn't get caught goes into the pond and then Penns Creek.
The new walks and grading shown below are a result of a grant obtained in cooperation with the Co-Op Nursery of the PFC. Club Volunteers constructed the new raceway, new walkways and did the seeding and grading! These walkways will make it safer to feed fish all winter when we need to raise the covers for feeding, as well as pushing snow off covers so they can be lifted. Since there is insulation attached to the underside, with a wet snow they become extremely heavy. The area between has been raked and seeded. This also will allow machine mowing without getting grass into the raceways. Thanks to everyone who volunteer of their time, sweat and knowhow!
